UniPocalypse
Winner of DreamHackJam'17 and showcased at DreamHack Denver by GameJolt
Create platforms to guide the unicorns to safety!
Game Design/Level Design
The conceptual prototype for this game was something I created solo during a game development livestream. You can see the original work above in the second video. For DreamHackJam: Apocalypse I pitched my prototype to online and built a team spanning 5 different countries including Canada, US, Israel, Philippines, and the Netherlands. Over the next 3 days I worked on the level for the game during livestream, iterating as I test it to balance the difficulty and taking feedback from an audience as well as my team. The reception of the game was great and out of 171 applications, UniPocalypse won 2nd place and was therefore showcased at DreamHack'17 in Denver at the GameJolt booth. We are currently developing the game to work on a mobile platform.

Challenges
The main challenge for this project was due to the varying time zones that our team members were in. Not being able to work together at the same time is a challenge because there is a higher chance for miscommunication and loss of focus. In order to manage this, I created a Discord server as well as a Trello board where we could communicate and update each other on our progress. Luckily enough for me, my team had the weekend off and spoke English so we could meet in voice chat multiple times throughout the 3 day game jam to align our focus and give each other feedback
For the last day of the game jam, our programmer became unavailable and there were still many programming and implementation tasks needed done in order to complete the project and put everyone's work in. I stepped in to complete the remaining gameplay, implement audio, and create the menu system in the last day. The fun and simple gameplay I designed as well as the level of polish and theme of the game helped it reach 2nd most voted for DreamHackJam and I think helped it show well at DreamHack'17.
